Androgynous fashion has been around for a while, but in recent years has made more than just a few appearances on the runway, the red carpet and everywhere in between. Gender-neutral clothing that was once seen as taboo or out of the ordinary is becoming nothing unusual and I am so glad about that. It makes the world of fashion inclusive to everyone and every style and opens up so many more options in your own wardrobe.
Androgyny is defined as the combination of typically masculine and feminine characteristics, so in fashion this relates to gender ambiguous clothing and style. So many celebs have rocked the style and I'm loving it! It's great because now anyone can take their favourite elements from men's and women's fashion and combine them into a beautiful, striking combination.
Male celebrities have started to embrace wearing skirts and long dresses, and I must say it looks pretty damn cool. Reality star EJ Johnson has been wearing a lot of clothes that are preconceived as feminine for years now and he has been slaying his look since the beginning.
The rise of androgynous fashion for men is actually way more important than you think. Previously there was a societal notion that androgynous dressing was only for women, and that men 'should not' wear dresses or skirts. It's 2016 and thank God the world is more inclusive because now we can truly say Androgynous fashion is for everyone, whereas previously androgynous style may have been described as "women dressing in menswear inspired outfits" by many.
Zendaya is also one to watch when it comes to fashion, especially the androgynous style variety. She has looked amazing in countless pantsuits and boyfriend jeans. She often changes up her style to incorporate traditionally masculine and feminine elements in her outfits and she always looks stunning.
Other celebs who have taken kindly to the growing trend include Kristen Stewart, Natalie Portman, Cara Delevigne and of course the ever-popular Ruby Rose.
Take a cue from the planet's most stylish men and women and adopt the androgynous trend into your own wardrobe to mix things up a bit , I can promise you that you will never look better!
Until next time
