Oh my goodness! It has been 3 weeks since I have written on my blog and I am so sorry - school and life is just piling on way too fast and hard. So I got a new little gadget a couple of weeks ago to make my life a lot easier! It’s called a FitBit Flex and I am loving it! It’s about $80 - $100 and you can get it on eBay or at most electronic and computer stores. To those of you who don’t know what it is here goes:
Fitbit is a company which makes pedometers and watches for fitness lovers and people who like to keep track of things easily. The model I bought is called the Flex and I really think it’s the best value for money model and the most stylish. I had to get the black one - just because it goes with everything and it’s my favourite colour. It’s sleek, comfortable and looks super cool - I’ve constantly had people asking me what this cool new thing on my wrist is.
So here’s what it does: It’s a step counter - so you enter your step goal for the day (mine is 5000) and when you reach your goal the band buzzes on your arm. The 5 LED lights also show my progress during the day. It asks for my weight, height, age and sex when I install the app (which connects wirelessly via bluetooth to the band) so It can work out my calorie burn. I can log my food in the app and when I do exercise the FitBit will either automatically pick up that I am active or I can log in exercise manually.
After a long day of stepping, calorie tracking etc I go to sleep, so I tap my FitBit Flex a few times and it buzzes into sleep mode. The Fitbit tracks when I am asleep, awake or restless and calculates how many hours I have slept. I can even set a silent alarm so that my wristband buzzes at 6am sharp to wake me up for my daily routines.
The other great thing about the FitBit is that you earn badges for things you do like when you reach your daily step/ calorie/ distance goal or you go above and beyond those goals. You can even sync wirelessly with a USB dongle which you plug into your computer so you can check your progress all the time. The fact that it’s on my arm also reminds me that when I’m eating sugary foods I should stop - it’s like a visual cue for me to stay on track. I would seriously consider investing in one of these, there are so many fun colours to choose from and you can always buy new bands with patterns on or even specially designed jewellery to conceal the FitBit. Such a great buy and it makes my progress 100 times easier to track!
