The annual Met Gala has been dubbed 'The Oscars of fashion', which is pretty accurate. Stars are known for taking their biggest red carpet risks on this evening, sometimes it pays off, and sometimes we'd rather just look away. Here are this year's weirdest and worst looks which hit the red carpet event.
It seems Perry has gone back to her roots, remember the gold old days back in 2007ish when her and Lady Gaga wore some super weird stuff that just left a big question mark over everyone's head. Well, it seems as if she may has brought back more eccentric outfits for us to gawk at. The singer wore a mishmash of red tule and ruffles paired with an embellished, buttoned red coat thing (I'm honestly not sure if it's part of her dress or not). Adding to the bizarre get-up, the singer wore a red, floor length tule veil which covered her face and had the word "witness" embroidered across her forehead. There were also some metal springs, mirrors and other things you'd find in a pet shop birdcage in the mix. The world is a very confusing place indeed.
Usually I'm a huge fan of Rich's looks, even last year, when she pitched up looking slightly like an omelette, you couldn't ignore the true glamour she was putting forth. This year, she looked a little more like a bag of potpourri. The shoes were a definite yes, they were stylish and would have been a great centre point for a different outfit. I think the outfit could have worked if some of the excess floral cutouts on th Bodie were transferred to the skirt, because the poor girl looks like she's drowning in her own dress. As for the beauty? it's mostly great, except for the over-excitedly applied pink blush. As the famous Simon Cowell once said; "it's a no from me".
So just when you thought it couldn't get ay weirder, you were wrong. This is exactly what it looks like : an armless (not sleeveless) red velvet jumpsuit. You kind of have to wonder what's going on under there? Is she wearing under wear? Does she secretly have pajamas on underneath? Isn't it super sweaty? And what if her nose gets an itch? Let's just hope this doesn't start trending...
Where is she hiding? Oh right, under a mountain of camp and... survival gear? Just when we though we had gotten rid of the god-awful came print back in 2007 for good, here comes Madonna with a blast from the part. And not in a warm, fuzzy, nostalgic way. Even more confusing than the actual dress perhaps, is the array of things and stuff reminiscent of a Bear Gryll's trip to the wilderness. I though surviving on the red carpet was simple... apparently not all stars are made out for the treacherous walk up the Hollywood stairs to their venue.
Jaden Smith is no stranger to taking fashion risks, and 9 times out of 10 it pays off. Remember his Louis Vuitton campaign where he was the face o their women's wear collection and it looked amazing? Unfortunately this year's Met Gala was one of those time where we were all left a ittlebaffled. His outfit was actually great, including fresh set of grills. But there was one thing that left onlookers perplexed. His accessory choice. He seemed to use his own hair as... a clutch 'bag'? I'll give you a second to let that feeling of "wtf did I just see" sink in...
Hope you had a laugh as much as I did at all of these weird wardrobe choices!
Until next time
