Summer is all about bright neutrals, like white and light fabrics. Cool accessories and practical extras to keep the heat at bay. Here are some of my favourite things about summer and all the fashion opportunities that it holds:
Fresh, dewy and glowing skin:
It's difficult to wear tons of foundation and powders while the weather is so hot, and who wants matte skin in summer anyways? Apply a sheer cover foundation or light BB cream and maybe a touch of blush on your cheeks and you're ready to go. If you're lucky enough to have freckles, let those little beauties shine through for a natural, youthful look that can last all day.
Laced up everyday heels
You should be able to find a pair or two of these in every fashion aspirer's wardrobe. A new staple, because of the versatility and simple beauty. You can create lovely patterns with the laces. It's a good idea to look out for a chunkier heel, so that you can wear these shoes on the regular, plus a blocky, thick heel is better for your feet, knees and back. This is perfect for when you need something dressier than beach flops, but not quite as fancy as stilettos.
Crisp, sheer, white blouses
You can never have enough of these, and they go with anything- tucked in our out, tied at the bottom or oversized. A pure white shirt in a good quality fabric looks good on any skin tone, and will instantly make you look fresh and summery. You can buy one with 3/4 sleeves in a light cotton fabric, which you can transition into a winter outfit later in the year by adding a couple of layers.
High waisted culottes
These pants are super stylish and will always keep you cool in summer because of the light fabric and wide leg. The culotte flatters EVERY figure under the sun and looks absolutely gorgeous on anyone. Paired with a cropped shirt or a tucked in sheer top, this look will turn heads while being effortless to put together. Make sure the fabric is light and that the waist band fits perfectly and you will have a winner!
Graphic statement rope necklace
Mix solid clothing items and make a statement with textured accessories instead of prints this summer. You could wear a completely neutral necklace or a neon rope accessory to bring an unexpected pop of colour into your wardrobe. Be sure to look out for varying textures like rope wood and metals as together they make a beautiful talking piece.
Thin, understated bracelets
I always feel bothered by jewellery on my hands and arms in summer, because it make me feel hot and bothered; and I use my hands a lot when I talk so I tend to notice when my cuffs and statement rings clank around all the time. I always opt for an understated thin bracelet in gold or silver that has a thin chain and no chunky charms. This works perfectly if you aren't someone who accessories often, as you won't feel annoyed by the movement of the bangle as much because of its light weight.
Large, neutral hats
Sun protection is so important to avoid melanomas and big moles in the future, and despite what you think; people with very dark skin can also burn and get skin cancer. As well as sun screen a hat is absolutely necessary in summer; but that doesn't mean you have to wear something that looks like the mandatory hat you had to wear on the lawn in middle school. Something neutral (to go with any outfit/ bikini) in a natural, light texture is perfect and light weight. You will look awesome while staying safe from the sun's harmful rays.
Large leather bucket bags
A beautiful light bag that is both roomy and stylish. I love this on is particular because of the unusual tassel. A possibly transpersonal item that is great for shopping around town of going out for drinks with your friends.
