Street style has always been for the cool kids. Everyone who tries it pulls it off and seems to make quirky, grungy fast fashion look super stylish. Sometimes for those of us who like trying new streetwear trends, key pieces and unique ensembles are so difficult to find at local generic clothing retailers and clothing department stores and the shops that do stock 'street-inspired' fashion mass produce everything so if you buy the shirt, you know 3 of your peers will have the exact same item of clothing. Luckily businesses like MOON clothing exist.
MOON Clothing is an independent, edgy and streetwear-inspired clothing line and their range is heaven to browse through if you have unique, stand-out style. The owner, Maxine Tromp does a lot of hard work sourcing and getting inspiration from local and international trends and the brand scream pop culture (warning: scrolling through their Instagram may induce you to comment a thousand heart-eyes emojis on every single picture).
Maxine actually started MOON Clothing with her mom, who always called her 'Moon' as a childhood nickname. The name stuck and made for a super cool company name which adds so much to Maxine's personal branding. The founder pair started off the company by sourcing overseas brands to house under their label and shortly after this they started and continue to locally manufacture original clothing and accessories.
MOON Clothing is also not just for the ladies - there's an amazing men's range as well and their accessories are absolutely to die for - not to mention the über cool sunglasses and stand-out sling bags.
I was sent a gorgeous black sleeveless, high-neck shirt with these amazing silver sequined angel wings on the shoulders and I must say I have never seen such a beautiful piece and it's so unique - definitely my new favourite item in my wardrobe! I will be wearing it at my next fancy function for sure -thanks MOON Clothing! It fits sooooo well and is comfy, and fitted so no tugging or pulling awkwardly at anything and I will definitely stand out from the crowd no matter what room I walk into while wearing this.
There's also a super bright future for this gem of a clothing company - walking at SA Fashion Week is definitely on the 5-year plan. Maxine wants to be fully local in terms of manufacture and production (local is always lekker!). MOON Clothing is aiming to be a major name in the South African Fashion scene - and I have no doubt that they will do exactly that!
Maxine also let me know that bodysuits are her favourite items this season as well as denim with embroidery and patches - so take some advice from the style expert and copy this trend!
