New Year, New makeup trends. The world of beauty is just as influential as the traditional fashion world. You cannot have fashion without beauty and vice versa - the two are intertwined and this is evident at all runway shows - whether they are of big name designers or small local brands. When you read about any catwalk show the first thing that comes up after the fashion talk is always the hair and makeup. This is why new beauty trends are such exciting aspects of a new year. Beauty is sometimes even more versatile and changeable than fashion is and wild hair is often easier to pull off than a loud pair of pants!
If you've ever felt like your makeup game needed something extra but you weren't quite sure what that something was, fret not - it's here. Glitter tears are all the rage and are perfect for a glam night out or a party where you want to stand out just a little. This trend was definitely part of late 2016 but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. It's so easy to apply, and you can either put it on with the utmost precision - possibly adding a couple of rhinestones into the mix, or you can just loosely dust it on with an eyeshadow brush. So versatile.
Bowls and Mushrooms
Yep, it's true - the 90's are back in every way possible... even the bowl haircut. This style has gotten a major upgrade from 2 decades ago however, and while it's bold and edgy, its low maintenance and The toussled look works perfectly. You don't even need to blowdry it if you're going for a more wavy style, like Zendaya. Just towel dry it - spray in some sea salt spray o perhaps some curl enhancing styling mousse and you're good to go - air drying your hair will make it looks much beachier and casual.
Not really a new trend - but it's certainly growing in popularity and it's better than ever. Dewy skin is here to stay and it's great for those hot summer days because it requires very minimal makeup. A light layer of foundation or just tinted moisturiser, some optional concealer and a little gloss on the lips (and maybe a dab on your cheekbones) is all you need. Just brush out you brows and you're ready to go!
Lone Red Lips
Red lip classic... with a twist. Red lips this season are bold - so bold that they steal the entire show! The trend this year is red lips and no other makeup - perhaps a light layer of tinted moisturizer and some clear brow gel. This is great for winter as it won't dry your skin out in cold weather, since there's no build up of product on your skin. Keep the lips and skin mostly matte. This is the ultimate 5-minute morning routine for when you need to rush off and you're sure to turn heads with this in style look.
Made up in Monochrome
One colour through out your whole face? It may sound like a disaster but it works surprisingly well. Whether we're talking metallic, mattes or minimal, this is a tip taken straight from the 90's and I'm loving it! For a simple day time look, try matching an orange or salmon blush with a lip tint in the same colour family. If you're going more glam, it looks very bold when you match your eyeshadow/liner to your lip colour and it can really make a plain outfit pop! Gold is certainly something you should give a go if you're feeling brave!
You heard me! Ear makeup is a trend that is growing rapidly on the runway. At first it seemed to be a simple fad - but nevertheless it has stayed in style over the past month or so and will continue into the summer and spring of 2017. It's a great way to dress up a bland outfit or make a slicked back hairstyle pop. For the guys who feel a little shy about rocking a full face of makeup - this is a really nice option too. This also works great for those of you who don't want or can't have ear piercings (for whatever reason) but still accessorize your auditory appendages. Keep it simple yet graphic or go all out with glitter or metallic pigment!

Until next time
