This last week, I went to my holiday house near Hermanus (I will write a blog post about the week later). I took my best friend with, as usual and we decided to hang out the whole day in town on the Wednesday. We ate breakfast, shopped around and then stumbled upon a previously undiscovered little bistro called Betty Blue.
The first thing you see when you step inside is a myriad of yellow and white furniture and decor with subtle blue and natural wood finishes. I have never seen anything like it, the whole Bistro was like a breath of fresh, spring air. It's certainly not something you expect to see in a small town like Hermanus, I would more expect it to be a celebrity-attracting eatery somewhere in central Hollywood! Everything is clean and although there is a lot going on inside, there is no 'clutter'.
Everything down to the physical menu is through out with the utmost care. The menu had a gorgeous leather binding and the shakers and sugar pots were super quirky. They have all sorts on their menu, so there is something for everyone. Because I live a Low Carb High Fat lifestyle, I often struggle to find eateries that offer something that is both carb and sugar free (usually it's a boring salad). Betty Blue has anything from vegan and Banting friendly salads, hot meals and treats to sugar filled Nutella pancakes and beautifully tempting muffins which I found difficult to resist. They also have an amazing juice menu. I opted for the green juice (spinach, apple, cucumber, lemon and mint) which was absolutely amazing, and they don't skimp on size- serving the drink in a Pinterest style mason jar. My best friend had the yellow juice (ginger, lemon and orange). I know there's also a red juice which contains beetroot and they have a daily special juice!
My best friend and I both ordered the same for lunch: Courgette noodles topped with melt-in-your-mouth goats cheese, basil pesto, rocket and Italian tomatoes. Needless to say, it was heavenly. It was also super filling, and really healthy. I felt full, but not bloated; which is what I always aim for at meals. There was also a tale at the counter filled with beautiful knick knacks and three huge pitchers of fruit infused water (lemon, lime and orange). The wait staff were also very friendly, and I never once had to ask a waiter for anything (all the waiters were also beautiful, may I add). The owner was also very friendly, and she matches the restaurant's logo perfectly! I also love the staff uniforms. They are unique and blend perfectly into the theme of the restaurant.
I was also amazed by the pricing, it's very fair. It's R35 for a massive jar of juice, which is a very good price. I paid R75 for the meal, which I also found quite good, because often bistros like this one tend to overcharge, so I was quite pleasantly surprised. The Bistro is on the main street in Hermanus, and is the perfect place to bring friends for a social lunch. I highly recommend it.
Their contact number is: 028 125 0037 and their address is 126 Main Road, Hermanus.
Until the next time
