Since the early 20th century, plastic has been replacing just about everything from machine parts to containers, building materials, hair extensions and shopping bags - and now it's really taking over the fashion industry. Although plastics were often used throughout textile manufacturing processes, they didn't make a garment look like plastic - the garment still had a soft, fabric feel to it. Now however, the plastic look is reserved for fashion's elite; and all the high society members sitting at the coveted catwalk Front Row are adopting the style.
One area where this trend is very hot right now is handbags and clutch bags. A couple of years ago, having a see-through bag that everyone could peer into the contents of would have perhaps seemed strange, uncomfortable and almost a slight privacy invasion. Now it's the height of fashion. It allows consumers to accessorize even the inside of their bags, to take the detailed styling to the next level. This trend can lend to the minimalist fashion movement or it can include more colourful, busy styles - so this is so versatile, which is great for people like me who continuously change up their style.
Perspex heels have also been making major waves at this year's fashion weeks and I've seen them popping up on my Instagram timeline more than a few times. In previous years perspex heels were often associated with a night club dancer's shoes of choice, but they have been given a classier look, which is easy to adopt for your winter style, since they're warm, easy to clean and waterproof. It's like wearing the most stylish rain boot you can own.
Jackets and coats have been major perspex adopters. In any colour you can imagine too. This is a major bonus since a coat in perspex like the ones above will give you major style points, while keeping you dry during the rainy season. It's such an easy way to wear the trend and your jacket will also work perfectly as a wind breaker during stormy weather.
Try incorporating this super easy and stylish trend into your wardrobe the next time you go shopping to look like you're really bringing your fashion A-game when you hit the streets!
Until next time
