We all love winter fashion for one reason: Knitwear. Something about textured, neutral yarn woven together in just the right way appeals to something inside us and often when spring rolls around I find myself reluctantly storing my favourite knitted pieces at the back of the closet.
Luckily for use runway designers and clothing retailers have started to take on knitwear as a summer trend. Think sophisticated macrame, hole-filled, loose shirts and cotton crochet. Traditionally summer fabrics like cotton are being translated texturally with needles and I am absolutely on board for this trend!
Designers like Balmain, Tommy Hilfiger, and Jil Sander have all incorporated summer knits into recent runway collections in surprising ways. Often the designs include dresses or statement shirts which will make any outfit look way more stylish than just your plain old cotton T.
Knitwear doesn't just stop at clothing. Since it is summer, everyone needs a sultry swimwear set and yes, knitwear has extended to bikinis and one pieces so you never have to stop playing up the textile texture. Who would have guessed that saltwater and sunshine called for crochet bathers?
Whatever the weather, find an excuse to rock knitwear year round. This isn't just Nanna's weekend project - and you can thank you later when your friends start naming you the group's trendsetter! You could even pick up a pattern and try your hand at knitting a summer yarn swimsuit cover up - if you're brave enough (what' the worst that could happen?)!
Until next time
