The fashion world is always evolving and all to often we seem to let swimwear trends fall to the wayside and tend to ignore this category of fashion - perhaps it's because there is a lot less fabric (in most cases) to work with, or maybe it's because we think that a bikini is a bikini is a bikini and we are stuck in the mindset that swimwear on the runway is reserved for Victoria's secret shows?
I'm here to show you that that's simply not true. Summer is the time when you should be spending most of your time in your swimwear, especially if you're somewhere particularly scorching like Australia, Brazil or Mauritius - just remember your sunscreen!
The high-neck, halter neck style is a major trend and this really looks good on everyone. For someone with a smaller chest, it gives you the illusion of having slightly bigger breasts, which is great if that's what you want. If you have a larger chest, this style gives great support and you won't have to worry about your costume staying on and in place when the waves break during your swim at the beach. The only downside to this kind of top is that if you decide to get brown in the sun, you may end up with some less than ideal tan lines, although I think most swimsuits of today will have that as a factor in any case.
Tassels and fringe are also a major trend for this sunny season. Although the stringy add-ons to the swimwear may not be quite so practical when they are wet, they do make any bathing suit look amazing when dry, so consider this for more of an "it's hot and I'm wearing my bikini but I don't feel like swimming" moment.
The monokini is also having a moment and side cut outs are back in! Luckily the trend isn't as extreme or over the top as back in 2008. Slits and lace up sides add a little more sex appeal to your traditional one piece swimsuit and still provide protection from the sun and a little more coverage than itty bitty bikinis do.
Now that you've got the toolkit of summer swimwear trends, go hit the beach in your stylish get up and make the coastline your catwalk!
Until next time
